Wheel of Time
It only took the Dragon Reborn four days after I got better to find a new task for us. I spent those four days trying to catch up on my training. Karin has show me that I still have a lot to learn about swordplay. I heared she sparred with the Lord Dragon himself and won. I am thinking about asking her to give me a few lessons. Since I left the Tower a few years ago I haven’t had the chance to train under the tuttelage of a blademaster. My own lessons with Nealyn Sedai continue. I suggested that she could join me when I train with Karin but she will not accept another teacher than me. Even though I am flattered I do not know how wise that is. It is true that she will never obtain that level of skill, but then again neither will I. My fighting style differs greatly from that of a blademaster. Not that I have any doubt that Karin could cut me down in mere seconds. It is good to have someone like that at your side. I noticed Nealyn Sedai’s skill with the sword has improved considerably. She is now the equal of most soldiers and guards. At the White Tower and even the Black tower so I have heared, a token is given as a reward for gaining a certain level of skill. The ring and the shawl at the White Tower and the sword- and dragon-pin at the Black Tower. I decided to give Nealyn Sedai something to reward her and to encourage her to train even harder. I didn’t have any idea what I should give but it came to me the day after my quarantine ended.
During my quarantine Nealyn sedai and I had a very long talk and with her help I finally managed to put the past behind me. I still feel the pain of loosing Grianne, but it has become bearable. I planned on rewarding myself by having a new sword made. I still carry around the hand-and-half sword Grianne gave me the day she died. I still plan on carrying that weapon, but I feel the time has come for me to have a new one forged. Grianne’s sword has a bright blue sapphire embeded in the hilt as a sign that the Warder who carried it served a Sister of the blue Ajah. It feels only natural that my new blade should have a brown gem crafted in to the hilt as I am now bonded to a Sister of the brown Ajah. In my mind my new sword was going to be a masterpiece, a piece of art yet balanced to perfection. I realise it will never be as good as a power-wrought blade but I want it to come as close a s possible. The prices for these things are usually enormous so I went to ask the Dragon Reborn for some money. If we are to serve him he may just as well reward us now and again. I had thought that some bookkeeper would be charged with deciding how the money was spent but I ended up talking to the Lord Dragon himself. It was the first time I as in front of the man without Nealyn Sedai and I must say he was more impressive than I could remember. He gave me the money I needed however. I searched all of Cairhien and brought together the best weapon-smith, jeweler and gold-smith I could find. I told them what I wanted and while I was explaining it to them I came up with a gift for Nealyn Sedai. I ordered the three men to make my sword and then create a duplicate the size of a longsword. Seeing as how I am her Warder and I taught her how to fight it is no more than fitting that we carry similar weapons. I paid for the second weapon with the last personal money I had left. A gift bought with any other coins would not be a gift from me. The three craftsmen informed me that they would need a month to complete the two swords. I checked up on them every day while we were still in Cairhien. It intrigues me to see how they can create something beautiful from lumps of metal and coal. Getting away from Nealyn Sedai caused some problems though. As I normally don’t go in to the city by myself without telling her what I am doing she grew curious and suspicious. She wanted me to tell her what I was doing and as I refused she got angry again. She finally stopped asking, probably because she noticed I wasn’t going to tell her. She tried to trick me in to revealing what I was doing but I have been around Aes Sedai for too long for that to work. She will just have to wait a month to find out. I think she will be pleased.
After those four days the Dragon Reborn summoned Nealyn Sedai to him, I still don’t like that he thinks he can order Aes Sedai around. He wanted us to go and scout Illian for him. Nealyn Sedai invited Damor, my brother, along and I informed Karin and Rowan. Grimm and Niasha joined us as well. We were to scout the city and it’s environments to prepare for the Lord Dragon’s invasion. Nealyn Sedai wanted Damor to come along because of his experience in warfare. Because he was the eldest son Damor has indeed received training in strategy and in leading men in to battle. That is why he is in Cairhien commanding hundreds of soldiers from Shienar while he sent me and Selisse off to…. Hmmm, I guess one never gets too old for sibling rivalries. At least I can trust him.
